What does it mean to work?
We at why work tokyo are a collective of designers involved in workplace design both domestically and internationally. Work is an inherent part of life that we seek to interrogate and reformulate. We see our collaborative project as a journey to uncover new ways of living and working.
With high density, cramped spaces, and myriad rules, Tokyo is a city facing a truly unique set of constraints. Dialogue stimulates our creativity as we explore the capital’s workplace possibilities.
Bringing together a collective of designers from SL&A JAPAN, dada, SIGNAL, SAKUMAESHIMA, Canuch, and OKAMURA, this why work tokyo exhibition will change form daily. In the style of a relay race held over ten days, each designer is free to configure their installation before passing the space to the next collaborator. Enjoy the installations’ evolving appearances and disappearances, and experience the value of moving beyond the workplace paradigm to design a new attitude toward work itself.

働くって何だろう?私たちが暮らしを営んでいくな かで避けることのできないその問いについて、話し 合い、構想し、そこから見えてきたこれからの働き 方や生き方を、今と未来に投げかける。why work tokyoは、国内外のワークプレイスやオフィスのデザ インを手掛けるクリエイターたちが組織を横断して つながるコンソーシアムであり、社会に新しい視点 を発信するプロジェクトです。
高密度。狭小空間。無数の要件……。この展示で は、世界でも独特な制約や条件のある東京という都 市ならではの働く環境やこれからの働き方を、創造 性を誘発する刺激として捉え、対話を重ねながら、 ワークプレイスの可能性を探りました。
会場は日々、形を変え続けます。SIGNAL 、 SAKUMAESHIMA、SL&A JAPAN、dada、Canuch、 OKAMURAといったコンソーシアムに参画する6 組 のデザイナーが10日間、それぞれの考え方をリレー するように構成を組み替え、インスタレーションを 展開します。現れては消え、消えては現れる会場の 変化を楽しみながら、ワークプレイスをこえてワー クスタンスまでもをデザインする価値や楽しさに触れてみてください。
