100脚の椅子、100のストーリー。
Okamura, as a manufacturing company, offers a diverse range of solutions to the market. It is the only Japanese furniture manufacturer to obtain global environmental certifications such as “LEVEL Certification” and the “Declare Label,” reflecting its daily commitment to building a circular society. To express this stance at Orgatec, we proposed constructing the exhibition space using reusable scaffolding pipes as the surrounding structure.
The chairs displayed in the booth were not just for show — after the three-day exhibition, they returned to everyday life, supporting the act of sitting in people’s daily environments in Japan. By showcasing actual chairs used in real settings, the exhibition emphasized Okamura’s presence in daily life.
Designed as a library focused on the act of sitting, the booth featured a “Chair Master” — an expert deeply familiar with the functions and thoughtful design behind Okamura chairs. The Chair Master offered guided explanations of the craftsmanship and innovation embedded in each chair, providing visitors with a hands-on experience of the essence of Okamura’s manufacturing philosophy.
ものづくり企業として市場に対する回答の多彩さを持つオカムラは、日本の家具メーカーで唯一、グローバルな環境認証である「LEVEL認証」や「Declare Label」を取得するなど、循環型社会の実現に向けて日々取り組んでいる企業。その姿勢を表現するためオルガテックの場においては展示空間を囲む構造体を、転用可能な単管素材で構成することを提案した。
また、展示に並べられたイスたちは、3日間の会期を終えると、日本の「座る」を支えるためにそれぞれの暮らしに還っていくように、日常で使用されているチェアを採用した。
生活の座るに着目したライブラリーとしてのブース設計では、オカムラのイスに秘められた機能や心づかいに精通する「チェアマスター」が展示空間に滞在し、イスに込められた技術やこだわりについて解説しながらそのモノづくりの真髄を伝える体験を提供している。
